Emergency services were called to a fire at 6:45am Monday, 11th May, after flames broke out in a wooden annex attached to a restaurant at a hotel in the Algarve, located at Salgados Beach, in Guia, Albufeira municipality,
Speaking to journalists, a source from the Algarve’s Sub-Regional Command confirmed that the blaze affected “a support structure, a wooden annex linked to a restaurant”. No casualties were reported, and the fire was contained to that single structure.
Authorities said the fire had been brought under control by approximately 8:30am.
The wooden venue, which was used for events and located next to the hotel’s swimming pool, was completely destroyed and reduced to ashes.
Damping-down operations continued for several hours as firefighters worked to eliminate remaining hot spots. The cause of the fire is now under investigation.
