A couple were killed in a motorcycle accident in Santa Bárbara de Nexe, in the Algarve, during the early hours of Sunday, 10th May. Frederico Fernandes, 42, and Neuza Afonso, 45, leave behind two children.
The accident occurred in the area of Sítio do Medronhal, within the municipality of Faro. Frederico Fernandes was riding the motorcycle with Neuza Afonso as a passenger when he reportedly lost control of the vehicle, for reasons that remain under investigation. Both victims were originally from Tavira, and were travelling between Faro and Cabanas de Tavira at the time of the crash.
Well known within the Algarve’s motorcycling community, the couple maintained close ties with several local clubs and associations. News of their deaths prompted an outpouring of tributes on social media. The MotoClube do Guadiana wrote that “the club is poorer today”, while the Grupo Motard Índios de Monte Gordo paid homage to the pair, describing them as “brothers and sisters of the road” whose absence will be deeply felt by all who knew them.
The precise circumstances surrounding the accident are still being examined by the relevant authorities. Frederico Fernandes and Neuza Afonso leave behind two children and a motorcycling community united in mourning.
