American rapper Kanye West, who now performs under the name Ye, is set to return to Portugal for the first time in 15 years with a concert at the Algarve Stadium on 7 August, despite ongoing controversy surrounding the artist over a series of antisemitic remarks and a slew of inflammatory public statements.
The performance, which forms part of Ye's 2026 European tour, is being promoted through the official channels of Turismo de Portugal, the country's national tourism board.
The Algarve date is the only Portuguese stop announced on the tour and is expected to attract thousands of visitors to the region during the height of the summer tourist season.
According to the promotional material, hosting the concert at the Algarve Stadium is expected to raise the international profile of the region, with hopes of providing a cash injection to the local economy through increased visitor spending.
The event, however, is likely to prove contentious. In recent years, Ye has faced widespread public criticism after making repeated antisemitic statements, praising Adolf Hitler in interviews and on social media, and promoting extremist rhetoric. His comments prompted major brands, including Adidas, Balenciaga, and Gap, to sever ties with the musician, whilst several concert organisers and business partners distanced themselves from him.
Although the artist has since issued apologies and attempted to walk back some of his remarks, his prior conduct continues to attract significant criticism, with Jewish groups (such as Portugal’s Comunidade Israelita de Lisboa) warning against bolstering the rapper’s platform.
The musician’s Algarve appearance marks his first concert in Portugal since 2011, representing one of the highest-profile international music events scheduled in the country this year.
