The Algarve is set to gain a new private hospital by the end of 2027, with a €60 million investment aimed at strengthening healthcare provision. The region has long struggled with shortages of medical professionals, and a growing pressure on services for both residents and tourists.
Lusíadas Saúde's new Faro hospital will provide a 24-hour emergency department for both adults and children, an intensive care unit, five operating theatres, 28 inpatient rooms, a medical imaging department, outpatient consultations, diagnostic services and a gastroenterology unit. Dental care will be provided by HeyDoc, the group's dedicated oral healthcare brand.
Among the planned facilities are robotic surgery systems, hybrid operating theatres combining surgical and imaging capabilities in a single space, and artificial intelligence solutions designed to support diagnosis and clinical decision-making.
According to Lusíadas Saúde, the new hospital is expected to create around 500 skilled jobs and, once fully operational, will have the capacity to deliver more than 400,000 outpatient consultations and approximately 7,500 surgical procedures each year.
The purpose-built facility will be located in Lejana de Baixo and will comprise around 8,500 square metres spread over five floors. It will expand the group's healthcare network in the Algarve, joining its existing hospitals in Albufeira and Vilamoura, as well as its clinic in Faro.
