Registration ends at midnight tonight with over 150,000 gas and electricity customers already signed up in DECO‘s second auction.
BY presenting energy companies with 150,000 potential new customers, DECO will be able to negotiate better price deals with the various deregulated energy supply companies, a tactic that has worked before but caused some adverse comments as it was found that DECO also negotiated a commission for itself, a deal it was keen to hide from its customers.
By mid-afternoon on Friday 26th June, 150,161 registrants on www.paguemenosenergia.pt were keen to get a better deal for their electricity and gas supply. The result will be known on Monday 30th June.
DECO are asking for bids from suppliers for four types of supply; electricity only, electricity with dual tariff, and electricity and gas combined with single or dual rates.
DECO has pre-negotiated terms to ensure fairness for customers and has agreed 12 month minimum contracts.
The first energy auction was launched in May 2013 and attracted nearly 600,000 consumers, about 10% of the domestic electricity market.
In this first auction a cynical move by EDP saw the recently privatised company offer a better deal the day after the auction closed, a situation that could be repeated this year.
EDP also commented in 2013 that it was not prepared to offer DECO a commission.
It was news to most customers that a commission was being demanded by DECO in the first place and the image of the non-for-profit organisation was damaged as a result - EDP's clear intention.
Any takers from the first auction can switch to a better deal in the second auction.
