The Portuguese are booking holidays at the last minute and are heading en masse to Albufeira, Portimão, Vilamoura and Lisbon.
The Spanish, British and French are the top three foreign groups looking to holiday in Portugal this summer.
These are some of the main conclusions in the Trivago travel trends survey for the summer season 2014.
Albufeira is, by a huge margin, the most searched for destination on the web by the Portuguese for July and August.
Portimao, Lisbon, Vilamoura, Monte Gordo and Lagos are the most searched for Algarve destinations, with Funchal, Vilamoura and Tavira following closely.
The online preferences of the Portuguese are Barcelona, Benidorm, London, Paris, Madrid, Rome, Sanxenxo (Spain), Palma de Mallorca, Seville and Amsterdam.
When the Portuguese book accommodation for a minimum stay of seven nights, they do it with less than three months before travel.
As for planning in advance, nobody beats the Germans who book an average of 101 days in advance.
As for hotel prices in Portugal, Vilamoura is the most expensive Algarve destination, €164.79 on average per night for a double room, but is still among the favourites for the Portuguese, followed by Albufeira (€140.18) and Lagos (€123.83).
The analysis of summer trends was based on all the searches on the Trivago website between January 1st and June 15th, 2014.
