Algarve ULS denies preventing staff from working while attending Medical School

ULS AlgarveThe Algarve Local Health Unit (ULS) has denied preventing employees from studying Medicine at the University of Algarve, while thye remain in employment.

The clarification follows questions from the Socialist Party (PS) regarding comments by ULS chairman Tiago Botelho, which were interpreted as suggesting that employment and medical studies were incompatible.

The ULS said the comments had been taken out of context, explaining that they referred to the practical difficulty of combining regular employment with the demands of medical training.

The health unit said it complies with legislation governing working students and has no policy preventing employees from attending the Medicine course. It also described employees pursuing medical studies as a positive development, that could contribute to increasing the number of doctors in the Algarve.
