The Rope Rescue Team of the Olhão Bombeiros will represent Portugal at the UKRO (National Rope Rescue Challenge) 2026, an international technical rescue competition taking place in Nottingham, UK, from 1 to 3 October.
The invitation to take part was extended by the National Association for Rescue and Vehicle Extrication (ANSD), following the team’s performance at the 2026 National Championship, held in Portimão.
Participation in the international event also recognises the work carried out by Olhão’s firefighters in the field of rope rescue, a discipline requiring specialised training, technical expertise, and the ability to operate under pressure in simulated emergency situations.
The Mayor of Olhão, Ricardo Calé, expressed his “pride in the team’s participation in this competition”, highlighting “the Municipality’s commitment to protecting and assisting the population through investment in firefighters’ training and in strengthening their operational capabilities”.
The mayor also publicly thanked the Olhão Bombeiros for its “commitment, dedication and continuous pursuit of the best and most innovative solutions and good practices in emergency response”.
