A 64-year-old German woman died on Saturday afternoon, 3 October, after falling from a clifftop blowhole of about 20 metres while walking between Tonel and Beliche beaches in Sagres, in the municipality of Vila do Bispo.
The alarm was raised at 5.24pm through the Lisbon Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC Lisboa), which reported that a woman had fallen into a hole along a clifftop area..
Maritime Police from the Lagos local command, the SeaWatch project, Vila do Bispo volunteer firefighters, and the INEM medical emergency and resuscitation vehicle (VMER) were sent to the scene.
A firefighters' high-angle rescue team successfully brought the woman to the clifftop, where the INEM medic pronounced her dead.
With the authorisation of the public prosecutor's office, firefighters took the body to the Barlavento Algarvio medical-legal and forensic institute.
The Lagos Maritime Police are investigating the circumstances of the incident.
