A 61-year-old doctor was arrested on Tuesday, 6 October, on suspicion of raping a 52-year-old female patient during a consultation in Albufeira. Police say the alleged assault happened during a private consultation back in June, and that the suspect has previous convictions for sexual offences
According to the Polícia Judiciária (PJ), Portugal's criminal investigation police, the alleged incident took place at an unidentified private healthcare clinic.
The doctor is said to have “taken advantage of his professional work as an outpatient practitioner to subject the victim to abusive sexual acts under the pretext of a clinical diagnosis”.
The investigation established the facts and found that the detainee already has a police and criminal record. He has previously been convicted of sexual offences committed at various private hospital units in the Algarve.
His identity has not yet been revealed, and information relating to court proceedings is to follow.
