Rollers fly from salesrooms

rr2Rolls-Royce has welcomed a new record in sales for the year to-date.

The 1,968 vehicles sold were an increase of 33% over the same period in 2013.

The luxury cars have been selling well in Europe, Asia and even the beleaguered Middle East.

Strongest growth was in Europe, with Germany taking the lead. Sales in Europe soared more than 60%.

Sales in Asia Pacific increased nearly 40% over the six months, and the Middle East saw a 30% jump.

The top of the range model, Phantom, is priced at more than £300,000.

Buyers will not get any change from £200,000 for the Ghost, the firm’s cheapest model.

The Silver Ghost appeared in 1907 after the partnership of Rolls and Royce was forged in 1904. It was replaced by the Phantom I in 1925.

Rolls-Royce went into receivership in the 1970s and was divided in two, with one focus on aircraft engines and the other on cars. In 1980 Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Ltd was acquired by defence company Vickers and then by BMW in 1998.

It is now based at Goodwood, West Sussex.
