ebayA gang of British criminals has been sentenced for its sentenced to jail for selling shoplifted goods on eBay.

They went in search of goods to nick and targeted DIY stores, such as Homebase and B&Q in 13 counties.

Showers and fixtures, bathroom fittings, and vacuum cleaners were grabbed and then sold on eBay for a total of more than £250,000. Judge Peter Blair QC described their criminality as “high organised”.

Most of the accused were relatives and friends and all came from Southampton.

Six men and four women received prison sentences of between six months and five years. Two others were given a suspended sentence and a community order.

"An arrogant, boastful, 31-year-old who appears to think he was untouchable", was how the judge described the ringleader George Mason who was given a five year sentence.

Concerning his numerous previous convictions, the judge noted he had "had most of the available court sentences that exist" and added: "Those previous sentences have failed to deter you from a criminal lifestyle."

Among Mason’s recruits were his mother and her neighbour, his sister and his brother-in-law.
