The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Algarve in Faro is to become a reality in 18 months. Work started two weeks ago with a target completion date of summer 2015.
"The administrative process, from the preparation of the design, tendering and government approvals to move forward with the work took two and a half years," said João Guerreiro, rector of the University of Algarve (UAlg), indicating that the process had been time consuming but the medical school will be taking students in 2015/16.
The new building has been started at the campus in Gambelas in Faro with a design coherent with the existing university buildings.
The investment is around €2.1 million and "If all goes well, the foundations will be poured this Wednesday," said Alberto Guerreiro who is managing the project.
The new building is the second phase of a development project for the university that started in 1992-1993.
