Albufeira’s tourism board has been in Ireland at the over 50s show to promote itself as an out of season holiday location. The tourism promotional arm of Albufeira council was enjoying the delights of Dublin at the end of October with the objective of investing in markets and segments to help combat seasonality in Albufeira which, of all the Algarve’s regions, has the greatest reliance on the summer trade.
"Seniors is a market segment that has a fixed income, availability and a willingness to travel and vacation in the wintertime, which makes it the segment with the greatest potential for us to attract to winter in the Algarve" said the agency.
There was strong interest from visitors to the fair and the omnipresent president of the Algarve Tourism, Desiderio Silva, made various institutional contacts and ‘met with tour operators.’ Albufeira Tourism will continue to focus on fairs where it can access potential winter tourists and link up with local operators.
To this end between 21 and 24 November, Albufeira Tourism will be off to the Hispano Portuguesa fair in Badajoz, Spain partnering the Tourism Association of Portimão.
