The man who shot his estranged wife between the Lake Resort Hotel and Falésia Beach in Vilamoura and then attempted suicide, has died of his self-inflicted injury.
The man was rushed to hospital last Thursday morning after the bizarre incident. He remained in Faro’s intensive care unit but died on Saturday evening.
His former partner whom he shot at close range remains in intensive care in the same hospital and is "receiving the appropriate treatment," according to the hospital. Relatives are caring for her four-year old daughter.
The couple had lived between Alcantarilha and Armaçao de Pêra in Silves, but had separated, leading police to the conclusion that this was a crime of passion provoked by interpersonal conflict.
The woman had moved to Faro but still worked at the Lake Resort Hotel near the popular Falésia Beach.
Her estranged husband waited for her to turn up for work on Thursday, blocked her car and shot her through the closed window.
Having shot her, the man shot himself in the head in an ultimately successful suicide attempt.
