The most popular spot luring British expats remains Australia.
In the last five years, some 207,000 have moved there. This is nearly a quarter of the 851,000 Brits who moved overseas during those five years.
The figures were compiled by Lloyds Private Banking using statistics from the ONS International Passenger Survey.
Other countries in the top ten destinations for British emigrants over the past five years include the USA (72,000), Spain (52,000), France (51,000) and New Zealand (43,000), according to the Lloyds Bank list.
It also suggests that 4.7 million Brits live abroad, or 7.5% of the UK population.
Most of those who have emigrated from the UK since 2009 indicated their intention to stay abroad for more than four years, although 70% of those going to Spain and 75% bound for France said they were planning to stay long term.
Another research initiative showed the Australia ranked in top position globally for the friendliness of its people and for leisure opportunities.
Australia scored second by expats assessing their levels of health and wellbeing and fourth for a good work/life balance.
Melbourne was recently named the world’s most liveable city having held that position for four consecutive years. The survey from the Economist Intelligence Unit considered stability, health care, culture, education and infrastructure.
Other cities in the country also rank high.
