Answers for Algarve tourism

4811Steve Forbes, the chairman of Forbes Media group and editor in chief of Forbes - the American business magazine - was speaking in Vilamoura at a tourism summit this Friday.

Forbes said there are many opportunities in tourism, especially "in medical tourism. With good prices and quality, the tourists will want to come."

The businessman said that the Internet is a fundamental tool for the sector to streamline their product. Increase presence on the Internet and take advantage of online communication - "promote yourself on the Internet, become viral."

Forbes called for the creation of tax incentives to bring in investment and attract more tourists, "become viral. An attractive tax regime is the solution," he concluded.

The American media mogul also took the opportunity to praise the Golden Visa programme and criticised VAT for restaurants.

Desiderio Silva, head of Algarve Tourism, was there to chivvy along state airline TAP which he criticised for not scheduling enough flights into Faro from other European cities which would attract more tourists to the Algarve region.


"TAP has contributed little or nothing to the development of this region with its policy of not putting on flights to Faro form European cities, which would make all the difference in attracting tourists to the Algarve" he said.

The Second Summit of Portuguese Tourism included dozens of entrepreneurs and policy makers, even the Prime Minister will be there tonight to close the conference and hopefully spend a weekend in the region.
