PM says he is lobbying hard for ripped-off BES depositors

passoscoelho2The Prime Minister Pedro Passos Coelho today assured ripped-off BES depositors that he has been "putting pressure" on the stock market regulator and the Bank of Portugal to resolve the issue.

Passos Coelho today received a small delegation of BES depositors who has lost their savings in the bank’s ‘rescue.’

According to those present at the meeting, the PM again advised them to go to court and added that he is "lobbying" the stock market regulator and the Bank of Portugal.

"He said he's trying to help us by pushing the CMVM (Commission for Markets and Securities) and the Bank of Portugal to reach an agreement," according to Ana Clara Henriques, one of the three unconvinced people received today by Pedro Passos Coelho.

According to Henriques, who has lost her own and her parents’ savings of €50,000, the Prime Minister also advised the group to use the courts to recover the money.

"We responded that there is no time, there are people who do not have time," said Henriques who emphasised that there are some very elderly people in the protest group who do have the luxury of time to wait for the slow pace of justice in Portugal.
