Portugal ranks last among the 35 countries surveyed to see if they provided internet access for guests in their hotel rooms, according to a report released by hotel booking website Trivago.
Portugal’s low percentage (45.21%) showed that fewer than half of its hotels provided guests with this travel essential.
First on the list is the USA where 90% of the hotels surveyed provided internet in guests’ rooms.
New Zealand was second with over 80% and Romania also provided internet in 8 out of 10 hotels.
At the bottom end of the table just above Portugal was Spain at 34th, Austria at 33rd and Greece in 32nd place where less than half the countries’ hotels had internet for guests in their rooms.
The countries of Eastern Europe showed a relatively good performance in contrast to southern European countries with Portugal, Spain, Greece, Cyprus and Italy appearing in the final places.
This ranking was compiled by analysing all the hotels featured on Trivago but whether the hotels surveyed charged for internet access was not recorded.
