A chief executive of one of Spain’s leading companies has scaled the corporate leader ranking to reach third most successful in the world.
The 2015 edition of the global annual review is conducted by Harvard Business Review.
Pablo Isla, 51, heads up the fashion giant Inditex, whose brands include Zara, Massimo Dutti, and Bershka.
Inditex is the world’s largest fashion house, founded by Spanish businessman Amancio Ortega in 1963. Zara, its best known brand, opened in 1975.
Isla became CEO in 2005 and then chairman of the group in 2011.
Last year, Isla was rated as the 14th best-performing CEO but in just one year chased up to third best-performing.
Since 2013 Inditex has been reaping the benefit of mild recovery in Europe, with net profit hitting €2.5 billion resulting from sales of €18 billion for the financial year 2013-2014 ending in January.
On the back of this, Inditex has become the world’s largest clothing company by sales.
The company continues to expand with 343 new store openings in 2014 for a total of 6,683 outlets worldwide.
The world’s best performer was Lars Sorosen who heads up the Danish health care firm Novo Nordisk while the second spot recognised John Chambers of the American IT company Cisco Systems.
