For those driver caught in the traffic tail-backs approaching the ‘new’ bridge over the Arade river just north of Portimão, things will get worse as both lanes over the bridge will be shut off tonight and traffic diverted through the city.
The bridge, forming part of the EN125 between Lagoa and Penina, will be closed from 21:00 until 1:00 due to resurfacing and work on the bridge’s towers.
When the road reopens, it will be back to one lane with traffic lights controlling flow, so drivers can expect further significant delays unless they pay to use the Via do Infante or weave their way through Portimão.
