Ryanair has announced new routes to Faro next summer season with Aberdeen, Cardiff, Hamburg, London, Marseille, Newcastle, Newquay and Wrocław, in Poland, scheduled to open up.
The Irish company's boss Michael O’Leary, still performing at press conferences despite now having a public relations chief, wants to take on TAP which currently flies 9.5 million passengers to and from Portugal and hence is in first place.
Lisbon airport will be taking Ryanair flights from Bologna, Glasgow, Toulouse, Wrocław and Luxembourg with flights to Oporto soon to be announced.
With this increase in routes, Ryanair expects next year to carry three million passengers to and from Lisbon, an increase of 13%, and 2.4 million passengers a year to and from the Algarve, a 19% increase.
O'Leary also wants to fly to Madeira, "We are studying and talking to Funchal and Terceira in the Açores.
“We think there could be a good opportunity on Terceira Island, but would not be surprised if we started to fly to Madeira within one to two years" said O’Leary in Lisbon at the presentation of the Ryanair calendar for summer 2017.
