A clear up of rubbish accumulated in the Ria Formosa natural zone in the Quinta do Lago and surrounding areas saw the cooperation of happy Conrad Hilton volunteers, the Almancil Scouts and other volunteers groups and individuals who all roll up their sleeves and attacked the problem of dumped waste and rubbish.
June 5th is the official Environment Day but with the start of the tourist and swimming season upon us, Quinta do Lago kicked off this initiative early and the volunteers collected 52 tonnes of rubbish and green waste from the forest areas, and 55 bags of plastic, glass and paper from the Ria Formosa area from the beach to the main road.
There are increasingly intensive checks taking place and warnings for fly-tippers that they will be prosecuted and fined when caught, although this seldom, if ever happens.
The Conrad Hotel was for the second year running awarded the Green Key award for its local environmental work and joins other Algarve businesses that have seen it as necessary to improve their own environment in the face of rubbish tipping, litter throwing and the dumping of commercial waste in areas not designed for this purpose.
Thank you to the Hotel Conrad for their great support of this initiative.
