Five pickpockets, four women and one man, all from the same family and who worked in groups across the country, were arrested by the PSP yesterday.

According to the provisional results of the 2021 Census, released last Thursday by the National Statistics Institute (INE), foreigners currently make up 5.3% of the population residing in Portugal, but 14.7% in the Algarve.

The General Directorate of Health (DGS) announced this morning that more than 88,000 children in Portugal were vaccinated over the weekend against covid-19.

The 1st school term ends today and after three months of classes around 10,000 students are still without a teacher in some subjects, reflecting the same old worrying problem once again.

With some European countries recently recording the most cases for 2 years, almost all countries in the European Union,  UK included, have already re-introduced some containment measures to prevent family get-togethers (which have not yet been banned in any country yet) in an effort to prevent additional pressure on health systems.

According to a recent survey, the majority of Portuguese (61%) agree with the vaccination of children between 5 and 11 years old against covid-19, and that it should be done as soon as possible.

At some stage after the election on 30^th January, the Portuguese parliament will probably want to update the previous parliament’s plan to legalise euthanasia.

Confirmation that the over 50's will be given a booster dose of covid-19 vaccine was given yesterday (14th December) by the Deputy Secretary of State and Health, António Lacerda Sales.
