TAP unions wangle 30 months 'no sacking' deal

piresdelimaIn a move that will make potential buyers of TAP think again, Pires de Lima today announced that any future owner of the state owned airline will not be allowed to sack anyone for 30 months.

The Economy Minister did manage to avert a strike between Christmas and New Year with the promise of talks with union representatives in the new year, which now have gone ahead.

Portimão council offers incentives to city centre property owners

maborPortimão Council said today that a team of technicians soon will start to survey private property in its historic centre with the aim of identifying those buildings in need of upgrade and repair.

The council has asked for the cooperation of property owners during the survey period which runs until the end of July. The team will be working on the first stage of a revitalisation programme to halt the decline of important buildings owned privately and to encourage their repair to encourage new residents to move into the city centre.

Portuguese go car crazy – on credit

mercedesHaving learned zero restraint from the years of boom and bust, Portuguese drivers went credit crazy last year with €1.1 billion advanced by normally tight-fisted banks to customers wanting to buy new cars.

Car loans from January to November 2014 was the only credit segment in the country to show any real signs of growth, according to data released today by the Bank of Portugal.

Portugal's judges have 'less than three hours to judge'

justiceA study into the snail-like pace of Portuguese justice shows that many family and juvenile courts are taking less than three hours to analyze and decide each outcome, including the time taken to hear the case.

The study by the Portuguese Association for Parental Equality and Law of Children is based on data from the Ministry of Justice and the Supreme Judicial Council and looked at the number of cases per judge and  the average times for each decision.

Google pulls Google Glass

IKEA may have to reinstate damaged land

The trading associations have highlighted irregularities in the planning process, risks to the environment and damage to the regional economy in a notice sent to anyone who wuill listen.

Goldman Sachs embarrassed by BES loan failure
