In light of recent accusations, Zoomarine have released a statement saying that the recent claims made against the theme park are “absurd, lack scientific basis and aim to create public outrage”, following the publishing of a report by World Animal Protection. The report placed Zoomarine on a list of venues to avoid until they “drastically improve their animal welfare”.
A Ryanair passenger claimed yesterday that Faro police injured him while dragging him off the plane, following him being “wrongly accused” of punching an air stewardess.
The passenger said he suffered a string of injuries after Portuguese police used "excessive" force to drag him off the plane. Rafik Boutiche, 20, was returning from a music festival in the region with a friend when he claims a female member of staff objected to him moving seats.
The large amounts of people racing to petrol stations has already caused several of them in the Algarve to run out of fuel, and those that do still have fuel are facing long queues.
The gas truck drivers’ strike doesn’t start until Monday, but the Algarvians - and the many tourists who are in the region - do not want to run out of fuel, and are "racing" to fill their vehicles. High demand has already caused diesel and, in some cases, also gasoline, to run out in several pumps around the region.
910 kilos of sardines, with an estimated value of 4500 euros, were seized for overfishing today in Portimão. The operation was carried out by the GNR Olhão Coastal Control Detachment.
"As part of an enforcement action directed at professional fishing, the military found that the legally established daily sardine catch limits had been exceeded. This limit aims to ensure the sustainability of the species," explains the GNR, in a note sent to essays.
The project, which opens two lighthouses in the Algarve to the public throughout the months of July and August "has been a success" in attracting visitors.

A bomb threat forced the closure of the Mar Shopping mall in Loulé this afternoon between 13:00 and 15:00. The GNR have revealed that they have already identified the suspect behind the threat.
An on-site witness revealed that the situation became obvious around 1pm, and ended around 3pm. During this period, the doors of the shopping complex were closed, and no one was permitted to leave or enter Mar Shopping. In the end “a man was caught.” The witness, who asked to remain anonymous, stated that “everything was crazy and people were all very scared”.
The news of of Ryanair's operations base close at Faro Airport at the beginning of next year "makes us very worried because, without air transport, there is no tourism," said João Soares, delegate of the Algarve Hotel Association of Portugal (AHAP).
