Faro and Olhão drug supply family arrested in GNR raid

heroinDrugs, weapons and money have been seized during searches aimed at dismantling a trafficking network operating in Faro and Olhão.

On Monday, nine suspects - six men and three women, aged between 30 and 57 and related to each other - were detained by the Criminal Investigation team of the Faro GNR.

The 16th edition of the Dry Fruits Fair will take place from the 1st to the 3rd of September, in Largo de la Junta de Freguesia, in Alcantarilha, Silves.

The event aims to promote traditional local and regional products, with a clear emphasis on nuts such as almond and carob, and dried figs. There are always a variety of stands linked to handicrafts, gastronomy and sweets.

Lagos council opens a pet cemetery - the third in the country

dogLeapingLagos council is to open a pet cemetery on September 8, next to the municipal kennel.

The construction of the graveyard for the area’s deceased pets was one of the three most voted projects in the Lagos Participative Budget which formed part of the 2016 municipal budget.

The construction of the seaside property owned by Paul Roseby and James Tod had been authorised by Olhão council despite the land area being national maritime reserve.

The fires, which have devastated large swathes of central Portugal since June, have highlighted the removal of political power from rural inland areas, according to the FT.

Oracle joins list of companies that paid for trips by State employees

airplane2The Minister of Internal Administration has ordered an inquiry into the "alleged participation" of a State employee on a trip financed by Oracle, a US technology company.

The note from the minister's office comes after a State employee “of an MAI-dependent structure” traveled to San Francisco on a trip paid for by Oracle at the time of Oracle Open World 2014.

Fatacil and White Night attract 250,000 visitors
