BES-Angola's Álvaro Sobrinho charged in Mauritius

BESalgolabossÁlvaro Sobrinho, the former head of Banco Espírito Santo in Angola (BES-A) has been charged by the authorities in Mauritius, the island to which he moved after his name in Portugal became synonymous with corruption and larceny, despite avoiding charges from Portugal's public prosecution service.

Sobrinho, long desirous of a banking licence, stands accused of providing false information to the Financial Services Commission in Mauritius.

Sobrinho swept into the Indian Ocean island, handing out Range Rovers and Jaguar cars to senior officials in order to buy his way in to an administration that he viewed as suitably open to bribery.

Older diesel cars to be banned from Europe's roads

exhaustMany diesel cars sold in Portugal between 2006 and 2014 will fail to meet emission standards set by European partner countries and will not be allowed entry to Eruope's road network.

Currently, only 11 European cities, including Madrid and Paris, have promised to ban the entry of older diesel vehicles as early as 2025 at which date only up-to-date, post 2014 models, will be allowed to be driven.

Two new five-star hotels for Portimão

NOS received health service contracts after paying for trips to China

NOSTelecommunications operator NOS has confirmed the payment of air travel to China in June 2015 for five of its employees and "nine external guests," adding that it was determining "the framework of this payment."

In a statement sent to newsrooms on Monday, NOS "confirms that in June 2015, company employees participated in a work trip to Zhang Zhou and Shenzehen, whose sole purpose was to share knowledge and best practices in the health field."
