Cessna pilot is 'not sorry that he landed on the beach' despite two deaths

aircraftAlmadaBeachA month has passed since the pilot of a light aircraft made an emergency landing on São João da Caparica beach,Almada, killing two people - a 56-year-old man and an eight-year-old girl.

The aircraft was being used for training and, after the engine cut out in mid-flight, the experienced instructor took the controls and opted to land on a crowded beach.

Cannons from 1804 Spanish wreck recovered off the Algarve

SpanishFrigate1804Two cannons, one each from the 16th and 17th centuries, have been recovered from the ocean floor by a Spanish team working off Faro, ending a campaign in which the Spanish government managed to prevent a US company from claiming the contents of Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes.

Several pieces of the frigate, sunk in 1804 by the English navy, have been recovered with the use of a Remotely Operated Vehicle from the Spanish Institute of Oceanography. The two cannon were recovered from the wreck lying 1,000 metres below the surface.

Zero income tax for those earning under €680 per month

Those earning below €680 per month, an estimated 600,000 workers, will be exempt from IRS in a move by the socialist government to ensure that in 2018, the poorest workers will have a bit more left in their pockets at the end of the month.

"Beware of fake vets" warns Portugal's veterinarian association

catPortugal’s Veterinary Medical Association has warned of a growing number of unlicensed 'veterinarians' posing as professionals despite lacking the necessary qualifications or documentation to treat animals in Portugal.

The association says that anyone practicing as a vet while unlicensed to do so, can seriously endanger the health of animals as well as public health through diseases transmitted from animals to humans.

Sócrates to face charges of corruption and money laundering
