Fnac - 'the market remains negative in Portugal'

fnacstoreThe French-owned electrical group has posted a half-year loss of €42.6 million, similar to last year, with worldwide turnover down 0.7% to €1,628 million.

For Spain and Portugal, unhelpfully the figures are lumped together for the two countries, sales dropped 3.1% to €284 million compared to the first six months of last year on a like-for-like basis, i.e. excluding figures from new stores.

Portimão - French teenager dies in 6th floor plunge

Emergency services were alerted at 20:17 yesterday but the young woman was declared dead at the scene at the foot of Rocha Tower.

Faro- runaway mother returns with baby amid calls for charges to be brought

baby2012The circumstances that led to a mother taking her newly born baby from Faro hospital’s neonatal area  has drawn condemnation from the police and local child care centre, but some surprisingly wonderful comments from the normally outspoken and combative head of the Algarve’s hospitals, Dr Pedro Nunes.

The married 28-year-old mother, Alexandra Patrício, has a drug habit and was rightly worried that the state would take her baby from her soon after giving birth. She took the baby from the hospital two hours after it was born and went missing six days ago.
