Just 12 countries made it onto the UK’s green list, under the newly implemented traffic light system for foreign travel. Portugal, which is under three hours’ flight from the UK, is one of the most easily accessible and holiday bookings to the Iberian country surged in the wake of the green list announcement. Ryanair released an extra 175,000 seats on its routes between the UK and Portugal over the summer months. Jet2, meanwhile, reported a 1,300% week-on-week rise in reservations for holidays.
