Danish football team Brøndby IF are, for the second time in a row, holding a training camp at the Amendoeira Golf Resort, near Silves. Head coach Thomas Frank was focused on the training, and was impressed with the quality of the Amendoeira Sports Club football pitch.
Brøndby IF travelled to Portugal for a training camp at the Amendoeira Sports Club which is based at Oceânico’s Amendoeira Golf Resort in the central Algarve, Portugal. Their training camp ran between 29thJanuary and 7th February 2016, while competing in the Atlantic Cup, organised by Brian Horne, from the Sporting Events Lda.
Brøndby IF played 3 matches in the Atlantic Cup whilst on the training camp against Zenit, Lokomotiv Moscow and Kalmar. The first game, against Zenit, resulted in a 2-0 loss for the Danish team. The match against Lokomotiv ended in a 2-3 win on penalties by the Moscow based team, and finally the Swedish team Kalmar lost on the 6th February against Brøndby by 2-1.
The players, management and medical team stayed in luxury two bedroom apartments and 4 bedroom villas at the Amendoeira Golf Resort. The training camp ran smoothly under the supervision of the experienced Amendoeira Golf Resort team with regard to transfers, training, meals and accommodation. Head coach Thomas Frank was impressed with the facilities and the overall organization: “It was a very good training camp. I liked it very much, especially the facilities. It is a very good pitch, even better than last year. The manager in charge, Marco, is fantastic, taking care of every little detail. Everything is top service so we were very grateful for that”.
Other teams who have hosted their training camp at the Amendoeira Sports Club include Aston Villa FC, Reading FC, NEC Nijmegen, AGF Aarhus, Queens Park Rangers FC, the Republic of Ireland U19s Men’s football team, the Kerry footballers and Dublin Hurlers. A host of other professional teams have also trained on the pitch and many friendly matches have been held there, such as Dinamo Moscow VS S.V. Mattersburg or Feyernoord vs Chaleroi S.C.
In addition to the football pitch, there are two 5-a-side football pitches, a Technogym equipped gymnasium, six tennis courts, and sports bar all situated at the Amendoeira Sports Club. The on-site golf courses are the Oceânico Faldo Course designed by Sir Nick Faldo, the Oceânico O’Connor Jnr. course designed by Christy O’Connor Jnr., and the 9 hole, par 3 Oceânico Academy course.
