In view of the need to suspend international tour agents or journalists trips and tours to the Algarve, the Associação Turismo do Algarve (ATA) have provided an alternative - a virtual tour to region through its website, simulating a five-day stay in the region. Participants have access to a program of activities that will guide them through a set of diverse experiences on the offer, from Aljezur to Alcoutim.
This new tool presents visitors with an intense program of activities that will allows them to discover a specific area of the Algarve each day, from the East to the West. Like a conventional tour, the virtual tour presents an itinerary, defining times and distances between the different places to visit, in order to provide a perception as close as possible to reality.
The suggestions presented are very diverse and reflect the richness of what the Algarve has to offer, with something for everyone. You can experience the beaches and the various natural landscapes of the region, immersing yourself in the environment of the Algarve hills, hiking the Via Algarviana by bicycle or through walking routes, taking golf lessons, discovering the gastronomy and local wines, or visiting the theme parks, markets and historical points of interest in the Algarve.
Throughout this virtual journey, participants will have the opportunity to explore various content, both informative and inspirational, in relation to each of the program's suggestions: from viewing photos, consulting guides and brochures, lists of hotels and restaurants, and even cookbooks for those who want to venture into making some of the most typical dishes of Algarve cuisine. These contents can be accessed, free of charge, through the website of Associação Turismo do Algarve, and are currently available in English. It is also planned to include information in new formats, such as video, soon.
“The objective of this initiative is to continue to nurture the proximity and interest that the sector's agents and international media maintain for the Algarve and, in a way, sharpen their desire to experience everything they know virtually for real in the near future”, explains João Fernandes, president of Turismo do Algarve. “As we do when we receive these professionals in the region, we try to focus the visit on authentic experiences, where there is an opportunity to meet and interact with local life, and valuing the sustainability component, which is increasingly present in tourism in this region. With proposals covering the entire Algarve, from Aljezur to Alcoutim, we intend this action to be another contribution to internationally consolidating the perception of the differentiated quality of the region's offer ”, he says.
