You come to the Algarve for the weather. Period. Sun, blue sky, flip-flops on, and you're good to go. That's reason number one. And yes, I completely get that. But then it happens: rain in the Algarve.
Not a dramatic three-day downpour, mind you, but just enough to ruin your day at the beach. Personally? I love it. We really need that rain here after the hot, dry summers. Only... when you're on holiday, just moved here, or have small children, you don't want to understand the climate. You want sun.
Okay, rain, so: what to do in the Algarve when the weather is bad? Good news: even in rain and bad weather, the Algarve has a surprising amount to offer. And no, you don't have to stay inside all day, on the couch.
What does bad weather mean in the Algarve?
Let's be honest about that winter in the Algarve. Yes, it's often milder than in Northern Europe, but it's no guarantee of bikini weather (though it can be sometimes!). In winter, it can easily reach just above 10 degrees Celsius here , especially in the mornings and evenings. Add some rain and wind, and suddenly it feels a lot chillier than you'd hoped. It's wise to have a plan B for days like these—for example, a visit to a museum, a workshop, or an indoor activity.
