A Summer of Guest Preachers from the “Ends of the Earth”

allsaintsEarlier this Summer Rev’d Mike and Linda Clarkson, the Priest and his wife of All Saints Anglican Church Algarve, stepped aboard a Plane en-route for a long overdue extended visit to their family on the West Coast of America.

Long before they left however, Rev’d Mike and Warden Janet Martin were working hard to provide the All Saints Zoom Congregation with Guest Preachers for the Summer. These Guest Preachers joined the regular Sunday Services from all over the Globe to either Minister Live on the Zoom platform or for those in far flung places like the USA or New Zealand to record a Sermon especially for All Saints. This group of highly respected Anglican Ministers are affectionately known as “Friends from the Ends of The Earth” and All Saints has greatly enjoyed meeting them  and listening to their word as the weeks of Summer unfolded.

Melissa JonesOn two Sundays in the month All Saints was joined in a live link by Melissa Jones in North Carolina.

Melissa led the Congregation in a Service of Traditional Morning Prayer as the dawn broke behind her at her home in the USA.

Canon Andrew Wingfield Digby. Later on in the month they were be joined by Canon Andrew Wingfield Digby. Canon Andrew has the unusual distinction of playing first class cricket and working as vicar of a Church of England Parish. He has a solid reputation as someone who teaches the Bible in an entertaining way and All Saints were treated to a lively and thoughtful Sermon about being made new in Christ.

Canon Andrew was followed by The Rev’d Bruce Goodwin as the guest Preacher.  Rev’d Bruce is Parish Priest at a family Friendly Church in Bristol which is currently promoting a soon to be starting Alpha Course. The Alpha Course is something dear to the hearts of All Saints Anglican Church Algarve, something they have been working with for over 18 months.

The Rev’d Bruce Goodwin Finally in September All Saints will be joined in person by Ian Bentley who has recently completed an interregnum appointment in the Cotswolds. Ian has spent time previously in the Algarve and he and his wife Ruth have very graciously agreed to Minister to All Saints for 6 weeks from September 12th.

These guest Preachers, together with the home grown talent of Lay Reader Terry Moore and graduate of the Lay Preacher training course, Colin Packer, have ensured and continue to ensure  that All Saints Ian Bentley Anglican Church have had a  a lively, innovative and spirit led Summer in the Algarve.
