A series of nature, food, and countryside experiences will take place this spring at Figs on the Funcho, a riverside retreat located near Silves in the Algarve countryside.
The programme highlights practical conservation, Mediterranean cooking, and guided walking, offering visitors opportunities to connect with the region’s landscape and culture at an unhurried pace.
Birdlife Talk and Nest-Box Workshop – 6 March
The first event, on 6 March, will feature a birdlife talk and hands-on nest-box building workshop led by Portuguese conservation organisation, Vita Nativa. The session will explore native bird species of the Algarve and the importance of providing safe nesting spaces, as habitats evolve.
Participants will learn how nest boxes can support breeding bird populations and will build a box to take home, with guidance on correct placement and maintenance. Vita Nativa’s “Local Accommodation for Birds” project works with landowners and rural tourism venues across southern Portugal, to improve nesting opportunities and monitor bird populations.
The workshop will conclude with a shared vegetarian lunch overlooking the River Arade.
