The 21-year-old woman who was run over and left critically injured in ditch at the side of the EN125 in February, is out of intensive care at Faro hospital.
The hit and run happened early in the morning on a stretch of road between Olhão and Fuseta.
The accident happened around 06:00 and left Diana Valério in a serious and unconscious state.
Luckily, at around 06:15 on February 1st, a group of youngster saw her rucksack at the side of the road and discovered her unconscious body in the ditch. They immediately called emergency services.
The woman lived in the area and worked as a security guard at Faro Airport, She was walking along the road to where she usually got a lift.
The driver had abandoned the vehicle, owned by his father and left the scene of the accident without offering any assistance or calling emergency services.
He has been charged with a list of offences after, sensibly, handing himself in to the local GNR.
Diana Valério was in an induced coma in the Intensive Care Unit of the Faro Hospital and now has been moved to another ward for continuing care.
