Under a protocol recently signed with Alzheimer Portugal, the Câmara de Lagoa opened a new support office yesterday, for people with dementia. The office will help with the financial and logistical support of people in the municipality with dementia, with operational technicians trained by Alzheimer Portugal.
Operating from this week onwards, the newly created Algarve centre of the Portuguese Association of Family and Friends of Alzheimer's Patients will offer face-to-face assistance every Thursday, by prior appointment, by calling 282 380 429, between 9:00 am and 5:30 pm, during working days.
As the local authority explains, "there may also be calls on other days of the week, wherever and whenever there are emergency situations".
This initiative aims to provide "technical support to people with dementia and to all those who, directly or indirectly, live with them, whether they are caregivers, family members, friends or professionals who care for them."
It also intends to "work with institutions based in the municipality, training its professionals in the area of dementia and promoting a quality and integrated intervention". Another objective is "to raise the awareness of the population of Lagoa about dementia".
“The inauguration of this office reflects the concern of the Municipality of Lagoa in always putting people first, as well as their needs. It also reinforces the commitment assumed by the Municipality, of not leaving any Lagoense behind, ”said Luís Encarnação, Mayor of Lagoa.
