Authorities started searching for a person allegedly missing near the sea outlet of a sewage pipeline in Albufeira yesterday afternoon, following a member of the public hearing “someone calling for help from inside the pipeline”.
The Civil Protection source say, according to the Algarve Regional Command of the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC), the search began at 2:44 pm on Wednesday afternoon. After inspecting the inside of the pipeline using video cameras, no one was found.
Civil protection authorities then began underwater searches with divers in the sea near the outfall, which is about a kilometre from the coast.
36 members of the fire department, the National Maritime Authority, Albufeira Municipal Civil Protection and the company Águas do Algarve are involved in the operations, supported by 10 vehicles and two boats.
Nobody has been reported found.
