A 30-year-old man, sentenced to 16 years in prison for a homicide committed in Brazil, has been arrested in Albufeira, Portugal’s Judicial Police (PJ) announced on Wednesday, 22nd April.
According to the PJ, the crime took place in December 2014 in the city of Naque, in the state of Minas Gerais.
At the time of the incident, the man, now in custody, reportedly refused to accept his mother’s romantic relationship with another person.
Armed with a firearm, he fatally shot his mother’s partner in the back of the neck in a public place. He was subsequently convicted and sentenced to 16 years’ imprisonment.
The suspect, aged 30, was legally residing in Portugal, where he has lived for around five years with his wife and daughter. He is now due to appear before the Évora Court of Appeal, where a coercive measure will be determined.
