TAP sale takes off

tapThe Council of Ministers today has agreed to sell off state owned airline TAP, well... part of it.

Portugal's Secretary of State for Transport, Sérgio Monteiro said this afternoon that the plan is to offload 66% of the airline, 61% to an investor or investors, with 5% set aside for TAP employees.

legionellaThe Algarve has its first case of Legionella but the patient is out of intensive care and is receiving further specialist treatment, according a spokesman at Hospitals of the Algarve (CHA).

The patient is directly linked to the outbreak in Vila Franca de Xira, greater Lisbon and was in Intensive Care in Faro hospital.

Faro farmer cut off by state railway company

trainIn a new twist in the Algarve railway crossing controversy a Faro farmer has been annexed by state railway company Refer which has dug ditches either side of the railway line and piled up earth to prevent him using an established crossing.

The farm and nearby dwellings used the road that existed before the railway was built but Refer says that farmer Pedro Ferreira must pay for the privilege of crossing its line.

Praia da Rocha's tired Jupiter Hotel closes

The rather more encouraging news is that the hotel on the Avenida da Republica is undergoing a €2 million refit. The management plans that the refurbished hotel will be open for business by the end of March, 2015.

US hotel group takes over at Quinta da Ombria in Loulé

QUINTADAOMBRIAThe Viceroy Hotel Group has announced its entry into Europe with the opening of Viceroy at Quinta da Ombria, Algarve, scheduled to open in 2017.

According to the Viceroy, after completion of the project the luxury hotel unit will offer travellers "a unique lifetime experience in a prime coastal (sic) location in one of the most alluring destinations in Europe."
