Tickets for travel on the crossw-channel rail line will be on sale from £59 return for 12 days between November 13 and 24.

PT shares rise on Angolan bid

ptShares in Portugal Telecom have risen on news on Sunday night that the Angolan President’s daughter, Isabel dos Santos, has launched a formal bid for the company.

Isabel dos Santos has offered €1.35 a share for PT which currently is controlled by Oi, the Brazilian telecoms group which want to sell its stake to pay off some of its USD18 billion debt pile and concentrate on developing its business in its home market.

BES 'should have been nationalised'

bpiBPI's Fernando Ulrich said that the nationalisation of the renamed and bailed out Banco Espírito Santo, Novo Banco, is a far better idea than selling the bank at a loss, a move that will affect the entire banking sector.

Banco Português de Investimento’s chief executive Ulrich added that if Novo Banco is sold at a loss, as his bank supplied part of the funds needed to rescue BES, he will sue the government as will the other banks affected.

Investors demand pink diamonds

The Essex town of Walden (“valley of the Britons”) commemorated its crops of saffron crocus by changing its name to Saffron Walden sometime in the Middle Ages.

Lagos Chamber approves €46 million budget for 2015

lagos2Lagos has produced and agreed a Budget and Big Options plan for 2015 which sees a reduction of €8 million compared to its 2014 spend.

According to the mayor, Maria Joaquina Baptista Quintans de Matos, some serious budgetary rigour has been applied to the various departments which has enabled planned and necessary reductions in local spending, down 15% on 2014, as the council focuses on "sustainability, quality and solidarity" - its latest woolly key words.
