Corruption - even the Tax Inspectors are at it

financaslogoPolice today raided the headquarters of the General Inspectorate of Finance, the Ministry of Defence and the Red Cross, looking for evidence of corruption, embezzlement and abuse of power.

The National Anti-Corruption Unit of the Judicial Police sent in over 50 inspectors, accompanied by Public Prosecutors.

Algarve fire service ignores national order

FirefighterThe Algarve’s 17 firefighting corporations have decided to ignore an order from their national league and will continue to report their call-outs to the National Civil Protection Authority.

The national Portuguese Firemen's League, led by Jaime Marta Soares, announced on Saturday that the country's firefighters no longer will be reporting what they are up to, to their Disaster Relief Operations Commanders at the Civil Protection Authority, in protest at rule changes made by the Government.

Crash near Silves underpass leaves two pensioners seriously injured

The accident, near the underpass on the hill to the south of Silves, left a 21-year-old woman with slight injuries.

Government to sign support protocol for Monchique fire homeless

Benagil luxury resort project slammed by Environmental Impact Commission

benagilThe project to build a luxury resort near the cliff tops at Bengil, Lagoa has suffered a body blow with the Environmental Impact Commission issuing a red light for the €180 million tourist development.
 
A project was submitted to use 22 hectares of unspoiled countryside for a hotel, a tourist village and a hotel-apartment building, a total of 1,279 tourist beds. The development land is 300 metres from the cliffs between Benagil and Marinha beaches.
