Councillor voting suspension leads to Loulé budget impasse

LouleCamaraBuildingThe president of Loulé council’s Municipal Assembly decided on Friday November 25th, to suspend the €104 million 2017 budget meeting, due a PSD complaint that certain Socialist Party councillors should not be able to vote as they run municipal companies or have contracts with the council.

The assembly chief, Adriano Pimpão, said "They are members of the socialist party who are councillors and have leading positions in municipal enterprises."

New 'EN125 driveway tax' coming to the Algarve soon

Far from being an April 1st prank, the law passed in October 2015 allows Infraestruturas de Portugal to charge people that have property next to an EN category main road who need to use the road to get to and from their house or business premises.

€1 million in the 2017 State Budget for municipal kennels

dogillPortugal’s People-Animals-Nature party’s single MP has informed parliament that since 2001 it has been mandatory that all municipalities have a kennel for stray cats and dogs and that, after 15 years, only 180 of the 308 municipalities have such facilities.

PAN announced today that the Government has budgeted €1 million for the construction of municipal kennels in 2017, but that it rejected a proposal to reduce the VAT on pet food.

Duarte Lima to face trial in Portugal for 2009 murder in Brazil

Spanish setback for Scotland’s bid on EU trade

Esteban Gonzalez Pons is reported to have said that Sturgeon’s proposals for a special deal for Scotland are “impossible” and would be opposed by the Spanish government.
