EC takes Portugal to court over driving licence legislation

fiat500Not only does it take up to 18 months for many Portuguese residents to receive their driving licence, the European Commission is taking court action against Portugal’s government for failing to get up-to-date with European driving licence legislation.

After warnings have been ignored, Portugal along with Estonia, Italy, Slovenia and the Czech Republic are still not integrated or linked to the Europe-wide driving licence system called RESPER.*

Algarve anti-oil organisations increase the pressure

4828The Algarve Platform Free of Oil (PALP) has filed a petition with over 7,000 names asking parliament to stop oil and gas exploration and drilling in the sea off the Algarve coastline.

Manuel Vieira of PALP said that the organisation’s petition was a major goal, “At the beginning we had some difficulty in making people reflect on this issue and understand the negative consequences that this project may have for the region, but this is changing."

moodysMoody's has threatened to cut its credit rating for Novo Banco due to "major challenges" identified as a result of a poor performance in the recent European Central Bank stress test, the main one being a lack of capital.

The final decision will be taken after reviewing the plans to be submitted by Stock da Cunha, Novo Banco’s Chief Executive, who needs to rake in €1.4 billion from asset sales.

TAP employees vote against airline's privatisation

taplogoTAP employees have approved a motion against the recent sale of the state airline to the private company, Gateway.

According to José Augusto of the workers’ committee, the motion requesting the reversal of the TAP sale was approved by a large majority and pointed to "some irregularities" in the privatisation process.

Construction sectors fails to rally
