But it wasn’t just the children who delighted in painting their own Easter bunny face mask, or decorating eggs, or icing cup cakes… mums and dads, grans and gramps, joined in the fun and, in some instances, produced little works of art which, although not up to Faberge’s standard, certainly delighted onlookers.

International Week of Service

REFOODEstoi Palace International Rotary Club and Re-Food Faro volunteered together as part of a special International Service event on March 28th, 2017. During the International Week of Service, held from March 25th to 31st, service clubs around the world were encouraged to partner together to make a bigger impact.

This service event allowed men and women to learn more about the respective work of Rotary Club of Estoi and of Re-Food in Faro, and how they are involved in their community. The project was hosted on Tuesday March 28th evening at the Re-Food Operation Center located in the middle of Faro.

Local Freemasons provide urgent medical equipment for Centro de SaudeWhilst attending for treatment at the Lagoa Centro de Saude last year optometrist Roy Carpenter observed hard working staff hampered by lack of equipment and materials, resulting in low morale.

He donated a spare ophthalmic microscope which enables people with eye problems to be diagnosed locally and avoid the journey and waiting time at the Hospital Barlavento, and also suggested to the Lodge of Peace and Harmony in Lagoa that a donation towards new equipment would be appropriate.

One man and his dog raise over €1,500

One man and his dog raise over €1,500Local resident Colin MacBean successfully completed his walk across the length of the Algarve and raised enough money to buy a heart monitor for the Lagoa Bombeiros.

Colin, who lives in Carvoeiro, braved terrible weather conditions, injury and his fair share of navigational problems to complete his walk in aid of the Bombeiros, raising over €1,500 in the process.

Balaia Bowls Club support Albufeira FirefightersBalaia Bowls Club, housed in Balaia Golf Village in Albufeira and consists in a green bowling club, has promoted during the 2016, several fundraising campaigns in favor of the Albufeira Firefighters.
These campaigns have integrated various initiatives such as bowling tournaments throughout the year and a Skydiving event among others, which in their totality allowed to raise a total of 5,661.98 €.

Theresa May honours Centre AlgarveEssex businessman Andy Mahoney has been honoured by British Prime Minister Theresa May for creating Europe's first specialist special needs holiday centre at Moncarapacho.

Andy was given the Points of Light award, which recognises the UK's outstanding volunteers, after embarking on a personal crusade to help those with special needs experience opportunities previously denied to them due to the lack of adequate facilities. In a personal letter, the Prime Minister congratulated Mr Mahoney on his achievements. "The Centre Algarve you set up is supporting people with special needs and their families to be able to enjoy the experience of visiting a foreign culture in a safe environment. Across the world British volunteers like you are helping to build a better world for everyone. The Points of Light award is a small thank you on behalf of the whole country, in recognition of your exceptional service."
