Harvest Festival Charity Dance - Oct 29thWe are a local charity FLIC (Funds For Locally Identified Causes). Our Harvest Festival event is at the Sociadade in Amorosa on Saturday 29th October, doors open at 7.00 for 7.30, and is 12€ including a meal of Chicken in the oven, or 3€ after 9.30, without a meal.

Attendees are asked to bring with them a 'bag for life' containing non-perishable goods.

‘OBRIGADO BOMBEIROS’ raises over €3000 for local firefightersA fundraising event held on 24th September was a roaring success and raised over €3000 for the Bombeiros of Lagoa and Silves.

Over 150 people attended the event at O'Grady's 12 Bar, Quinta da Figueirinha in Silves and enjoyed an afternoon of good food and entertainment. While event-goers tucked in to a Portuguese BBQ, local artists contributed by performing a variety of music from traditional to jazz, rock and classical.

This year, more children than ever before were helped by ACCA, returning to school with the equipment needed to ensure they can learn. In all, 841 new school bags and back packs were given out to 35 different establishments including schools, food banks, orphanages, homes and social community centres looking out for the poorest kids in the Algarve.

ACCA Pro-Am raises more than €10,000 for worthy causes

Charity Bar Walkers Raise €2,000…And Counting!The figures are impressive—more than 50 walkers, 35-degree heat, dozens of gallons of beer and wine consumed…and most importantly more than €2,000 raised for local children’s charities, with the promise of more to come.

That’s the bottom line following the second annual West Coast Charity Bar Walk last Sunday from Restaurante O Paulo on the Arrifana promontory to the Restaurante Vale Da Telha at the Pines roundabout.

St Vincent’s Church donates wheelchairs to Espiche Home for the ElderlyMobility is something we all take for granted but later in life sometimes we have to face physical limitations imposed by illness or frailty. In an attempt to make a difference to the lives of elderly residents at Espiche Home for the Elderly, St Vincent’s Anglican Church was delighted to present the home with bathing rail aids and eight wheelchairs. These were funded by an independent charitable trust which is administered by the Church of England’s Diocese in Europe.

Angels raise €826 for Algarve Oncology AssociationA warm balmy evening in the magnificent venue of Ingreja da Misericórdia, Tavira was the setting for the Angels Theatre Group’s recital of Lieder and Operatic Arias to celebrate love.

The audience were entertained by Maria Rocha (soprano) and Stephen Dehn (baritone). John Evans on grand piano provided the musical accompaniment. The evening ended with a well deserved standing ovation.

Christians and conservation: St Vincent’s and A Rocha

Christians and conservation: St Vincent’s and A RochaAlgarve schools are set to benefit after a 2,000€ cheque was presented by Paul Bechgaard, chaplaincy warden, on behalf of St Vincent’s Anglican Church to A Rocha Portugal in support of their work with local school children.

A Rocha, a Christian conservation organisation, the inspiration of a Church of England priest in the 1990s, began in Cruzinha in the beautiful Alvor Estuary and is now represented in 20 organisations throughout the world. In Portugal they, together with other agencies, are the guardians of the salt water marshes along the Southern Algarve coast. The A Rocha Portugal team, led by Marcial Felgueiras and his wife Paula Banza, scientifically monitors the bird life and migration patterns of birds and the health of the Alvor Lagoon, opposes development which threatens the environment and also runs educational activities working with children.
