Ambassador Kirsty Hayes pays two-day visit to the Algarve UnpublishedKirsty Hayes, British Ambassador in Portugal, recently made a two day visit to the Algarve during which she had the opportunity to engage with a diverse group of British residents, many of whom have been actively involved in charity, voluntary or professional community work in the Algarve over a substantial period of time.

She was accompanied throughout the visit by British Consul and Regional Operations Manager, Simona Demuro, and by Vice Consul Portimão, Clive Jewell.

 Left to Right - Clive Jewell, John Hough, Alison Blair, Kirsty, Hayes, Cynthia Sheppard, Mark Stansfield.On a day when the skies opened over the Algarve (Tuesday 10th Feb 2015) and many of us were temporarily plunged into darkness, a ray of sunshine in the form of our British Ambassador Kirsty Hayes radiated warmly throughout a special lunch in Portimão which was hosted by the embassy.

In addition to meeting several British subjects invited to the event in appreciation of their contribution to the Algarve’s British community, the Ambassador also visited some of the organisations represented.

Swim for Shoes 2014/15 a swimming success

Swim for ShoesSwim for Shoes 2014/15, the annual event to swim or paddle in the Atlantic Ocean, has this year so far raised over €1000 for new shoes for children in care. Many congratulations and thanks to all those who participated.
This year's events had, for the first time, the support of Events Organiser - Portugal4U and the Albufeira Surf Clube - who added greatly to the excitement by arriving by sea.

Iceland collect for ACCAThe Iceland store in Guia wanted to support children’s charity ACCA at this busy time of the year, and staged a food collection drive for the week running up to 20 December. The result? Two huge boxes of essentials were gathered together by Iceland customers along with donations that topped the €100 mark and gifts for kiddies.

The event organised by Rotarian Uschi Kuhn and her team of helpers was also supported by the Junta de Freguesia de Almancil with the collaboration of the resorts of Quinta do Lago and Vale do Lobo.
