Almost 500 euros was raised by members and friends of Almancil International Rotary Club (AIRC) last Sunday at a Sunset beach barbecue. The money will be used to provide children at an Almancil school with back to school necessities, including books, pens and bags.
Pauline Binnie, Golf Operations Manager at Espiche Golf, near Lagos, had the great pleasure of presenting a cheque for the value of €4,663 to the Volunteer Firefighters Charity.
The event took place at Espiche Golf on the 18th July and saw a field of 80 golfers tee off in a Shotgun Start ,and conclude with players and guests enjoying a barbeque on the terraces of the magnificent new clubhouse.
On the 17th of August, a fundraiser for RDA Algarve Association was held at the Pinetrees Riding Centre, Almancil.
The riders had a lot of fun participating in Fancy Dress, Riding Classes and Clear Round Jumping sponsored by Blevins&Franks.
Silves Rotary Club and Almancil International Rotary Club (AIRC) recently joined forces to provide some much needed support to Castelo do Sonhos, a charity for the underprivileged set up in 1999 and located in Silves.
The charity is a private institute for social welfare which distributes food, clothing, bedding, furniture, babies’ and mothers’ requirements to poor families in the Silves area. They receive donations from the regional food bank, private donations of needed items and money to cover transport costs (to places as far away as Saõ Marcos da Serra). They currently support 2,355 families providing for 8,500 people including 3,000 children and 125 babies.
Horse riders and dog lovers got together for fun at Pinetrees Riding Centre recently to help raise monies for two well deserved animal charities - Associação dos Amigos dos Animais Abandonados de Loulé (AAAA de Loulé) - São Francisco de Assis Dogs Home and Their Voice Portugal.
The afternoon started with a Fancy Dress Parade, made up of Queens, Princesses, Cowboys and Rock Stars. However, it was Emily Aarons, who won the first prize of a dinner for four at Nelito´s Restaurant in Almancil.
Yeee—Haw! Residents in the West Coast community of Vale da Telha saddled up last Sunday for an All-American experience that raised €761 for the Madrugada Charity.
This year, one hundred years since the beginning of World War 1, is obviously a poignant one for many and should be a reminder for us all of just how disastrous war is.
The chances are that no-one reading this was alive during the years of World War 1, but you will invariably have had at least one member of your family serving in that war. Many young men lied about their age because they believed so strongly that they should ‘do their bit’ and be loyal to their country.
The final fundraising activity for Almancil International Rotary Club (AIRC) for the Rotary year 2013/2014 was a summer BBQ held at the home of AIRC member Uschi Kuhn on Sunday 22nd June. It nearly wasn’t summer since it rained in the morning but the sun came out at 1:00pm and from then on it was a glorious afternoon.
