New video blasts Edd's Beach development for planning and environmental violations

pintadinhobeach"The story of Edd's Beach is a modern scandal involving the privatisation of public land and the environmental destruction of a national ecological reserve repeated planning violations, the violation of court orders and law suits and arrogance from the developer Edwin Opstelten and his Crowdfunding project."

This sentence introduces a ten-minute video about the planning and environmental violations covertly sanctioned by Lagoa Ccouncil's Mayor, Franciscio Martins and the toothless lack of enforcement of national environmental laws covering Ecological Reserve land.

I will visit this myself with our walking group. But these stories echo a common theme on ADN and elsewhere asking whether Portugal has even now reached a sufficient level of development to function effectively in the EU. At the least an embargo sign should have gone up listing the penalties of doing work on the site. Any contractors machinery given an hour to leave. If the Dutchman is seen with even a spade in his hands it is removed. Why are the Bandits Rights still so carefully protected in Portugal?

This Dutchman knows his scam would not have lasted a week in his own country. Good idea as always with Portuguese officialdom to go world wide with social media and a video but why is Lagoa Municipal alone making these decisions?. Has no one told ICNF ( Instituto da Conservação da Natureza e das Florestas)? Are they not the relevant Ministry for supervising Zone Ecologica?

EDD is definitely "a special case" in Lagoa…. First he is Dutch (and that means a lot) and secondly and as everybody explicitely knows (in particular all the architects and the engineers) the Lagoa council is fond of "complicated matters", "illegal situations" and "dark room agreements"... Many examples are amply proving that !
